Thought for the Month - August 2010
NEVER TOO EARLY, NEVER TOO LATE
I was at two
funeral services recently within the space of just a few days – both elderly
folks, one a man and one a woman of very similar ages when they died. They were
of the same generation and had witnessed the same extraordinary technological changes
in their lives, and had had the same struggles of their generation. Each of
them had had long happy marriages – in one case the spouse was still surviving.
They’d each brought up children in days of austerity and had lived long enough
to see grandchildren – in the man’s case even great-great grandchildren.
One striking
difference about them though emerged when we heard their stories. In the woman’s
case she had found Christ as her Saviour in her thirties and had lived for Him
for nearly 50 years. The man however had found peace with God just a few days
before he died. He was really only a baby Christian but in those last few days
he was blessed with the peaceful assurance, that though he had left it late,
very late, he was born again and assured of heaven.
It can never be
too early for you to become a Christian. If you are young, then why not give
your life to Jesus now and find that the years you spend on this earth will be
remarkable for their joy and you will discover a real purpose in living. If you
are elderly, and the twilight years are well spent, then it is still not too
late. There is still time, but not much! But as far as you can still breathe, as
long as you still have a pulse then it is time to seek the Lord. You will not
be too early and you will definitely not be too late.
