Pastor Trevor Ramsey
Trevor Ramsey is our 53 year old pastor who was at the very beginning of the church in 1996. In fact he preached the very first sermon in GBC on Philippians 1 vv 1,2 on How to Put the Joy Back into your Life.
He supports Manchester United and is the father of 4. Oldest daughter Rebecca has completed 2 degrees at Queens University in Belfast and is now a qualified Social Worker. Philip has graduated in Media Studies at University of Ulster in Coleraine, also has an MA and is currently studying for a Ph D, because he reckons being a student is better than having a proper job!!! He married the lovely Sara in April 2009 and they both settled in Greenisland and are very much part of the church family. Rachel finished U6 at Belfast High School in June '09 and is currently on a gap year in Australia!! The youngest is 10 year old Nathan who loves music and doesnt love Maths! The family are involved together in the work and ministry of GBC.
Trevor was married to Sheela for 27 years. In April of 2006 she was diagnosed with terminal cancer and after 18 months of intense treatment and even more intense prayer, the Lord saw fit to take her to Himself. She passed into glory on 26th November 2007. The whole experience has been demanding in many ways but has given a unique insight into the place of suffering in the service of Christ. Despite that, the whole family desperately miss her smile, her unfailing optimism and her sheer common-sense in the midst of the demands of ministry.
Converted to Christ at 17 (in the back seat of a mini car!), Trevor studied at Belfast Bible College and the family served as missionaries with Baptist Missions in Cork initially and then Limerick in the Republic of Ireland for 8 years. He serves on the Publications Board of ABC Insight for whom he writes articles. He can also sometimes be heard on the BBC's Thought for the Day. Trevor is passionate about the power of preaching and the local church. "When you're involved in church life, you're changing lives and then you're changing the world. There can be no greater way to spend the short time we have on this earth."
At the end of September 2010 an era will end when Trevor concludes his ministry in GBC. He wll begin as pastor in Newtownbreda Baptist Church in south Belfast in November 2010.
