There were about 3000 people there for the 2nd service of the morning. It was Vision Sunday so little preaching but a half hour DVD explaining Hillsongs plans for the future, which apparently were to be unpacked at special Tuesday night meeting. It was hard to get into the worship as their songs were all their own work and unknown to me and probably to many there. Their bookstore was packed with books by the pastor and his wife and with Hillsongs DVDs. Very little else. Dennis who was on their meet n greet team was delegated to talk to us at the end. He wasnt a great advert for the church quite critical of the glossy brochure we'd just been given and also critical of other churches. Thought he could have done better.
By contrast, we attended the evening service at Engadine Congregational Church in the suburbs, where my friend Matt Murray is the pastor. This was just a lovely, warm local church service and Matt preached on the Christian and his trials from James 1. I was interviewed at length about my grief experience and God's grace, so I can now add 'spoken in Australia' to my CV!!! We're staying with Matt and Susan for a few days. It's still raining (4th day in a row!!)
